Melbourne's west is covered by a handful of large associations. Melton is the only one with a full page here so far. The others are Keilor at Keilor Park, Wyndham at Eagle Stadium in Werribee, Altona at Altona Sports Centre, and Westgate in the inner west. Caroline Springs plays as a club inside Keilor.

This is the thinnest region on the site, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Melton is the only western association with its own page written up so far.
The rest of the west is served by Keilor Basketball Association, Wyndham Basketball Association, Altona Basketball, Westgate Basketball Association and, in the outer west, Melton. We have verified the basics for each of them below so this page is still useful, but they do not have full pages yet and are not linked.
If you are choosing right now, the section below is enough to work out which association your suburb sits in. That is usually the only question that actually needs answering before you register.
One general note about the west. Several of the stadiums out here are large multi court venues, which changes how a domestic season feels compared with the rest of Melbourne.
Keilor Basketball Association has been running since 1986 out of Keilor Stadium at 135 Stadium Drive, Keilor Park. It lists thirteen junior domestic clubs, runs summer and winter seasons, and starts children as young as five through its Mini Thunder program. Its representative arm is the Keilor Thunder, with more than forty junior teams plus Youth Big V and NBL1 sides.
Wyndham Basketball Association plays out of Eagle Stadium in Werribee, a twelve court complex at 35 Ballan Road with a fifteen hundred seat show court. Its domestic competition covers ages five to twenty two, runs across seventeen domestic clubs, and takes in more than five hundred teams and four thousand players. Games are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Altona Basketball plays at the Altona Sports Centre in Altona Meadows. Junior domestic runs Under 8 to Under 18 across divisions one to five, with games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights plus Saturday. Its junior domestic page lists twelve domestic clubs and more than 370 teams across two seasons a year. The representative program is the Gators, with the Junior Gators pathway underneath.
Westgate Basketball Association covers the inner west. Its junior domestic runs Under 8 to Under 18, mostly on Saturdays with Under 8s playing Friday nights, and its representative program is the Westgate Imperials, which enters the VJBL and Big V. Melton Basketball Association plays across Cobblebank Stadium and Kolorer College, and enters the Thoroughbreds in the VJBL, the Country Basketball League and Big V.
Caroline Springs is not a separate association. The Caroline Springs Blue Devils are a club, and the club states it is a member of Keilor Basketball Association. It runs Under 8 to Under 20 with seventy five teams across A to E grades, which makes it larger than plenty of associations, but it enters its teams into Keilor's competition. If you live in Caroline Springs, Keilor is your association.
Werribee is the other one. The association operating at Eagle Stadium now trades as Wyndham Basketball Association on its own website, checked 24 August 2026. Wyndham City Council's venue page for Eagle Stadium, checked the same day, still names the Werribee Basketball Association. Both are describing the same basketball at the same stadium.
If you are searching, go to the Wyndham Basketball Association site rather than trusting an older Werribee listing.
Melton is worth a note too. It enters the Country Basketball League, which is Basketball Victoria's open age competition for regional associations, alongside its metropolitan VJBL commitments. That is a fair signal of where Melton sits geographically, on the line between metropolitan Melbourne and country Victoria.
Distances out here are longer than in the east, but the venue count per association is lower, and that turns out to matter more than kilometres.
Eagle Stadium has twelve indoor courts. Keilor Stadium and Altona Sports Centre are both substantial multi court venues. When an association can run most of its fixture under one roof, a domestic season becomes one address rather than a rotating list, which is genuinely easier on a family than the eastern model even if the drive itself is longer.
The flip side is spread. Wyndham's clubs include sides based around Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Tarneit, Truganina and Iramoo, and those suburbs are not close to one another. Training venues are dispersed even when the games are not.
For rep, the west carries the heaviest VJBL travel in metropolitan Melbourne, simply because the majority of associations are east of the city. A Friday night fixture that sends a Werribee or Melton team to the outer east is a long evening. The Regional League pools introduced in 2026 are designed to reduce that for teams graded into the third tier.
Broadly, and this is a guide rather than a boundary map, Wyndham covers Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Tarneit and Truganina. Altona covers Altona, Altona Meadows and the bayside end of Hobsons Bay. Keilor covers Keilor Park, Taylors Lakes and Caroline Springs. Westgate covers the inner west. Melton covers Melton and Cobblebank.
Rather than guessing, look at which clubs an association lists and find the one that plays at your child's school or nearest community centre. Clubs are organised around local venues far more tightly than associations are.
Ask about season structure as well. Several western associations run two full seasons a year rather than one long winter competition, which changes what a year of basketball actually costs and how much of the calendar it occupies.
And if two associations both look plausible, go to the closer stadium. In this part of Melbourne a fifteen minute difference in drive time compounds into hours across a season, and that is the thing families actually give up on.
