Knox Basketball Association runs junior and senior domestic competitions plus the Raiders representative program, out of the State Basketball Centre at Wantirna South. It's one of the few associations whose home venue is also the state's headline basketball facility.
Knox Basketball Association Inc runs basketball across Melbourne's eastern suburbs from the State Basketball Centre. Their representative program is the Raiders, a name that carries some weight in Victorian basketball.
Playing out of the State Basketball Centre is genuinely different to a suburban stadium. It's the venue that hosts state level events, so your child will occasionally be playing on a court that had something significant on it the week before.
291 George Street, Wantirna South VIC 3152. The association can be reached on 03 9847 2300.
Knox runs two entry programs before competition basketball, which is useful if your child is too young for a team but keen to start.
| Program | Ages | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Little Dribblers | 3 to 5 | First contact with a ball, movement and coordination |
| Ford Aussie Hoops | 5 to 10 | The national entry program, skills before competition |
| Development programs | varies | Run by school term |
Junior domestic is the open entry competition, and it's where most kids start. There's no tryout.
The Junior Raiders are the representative side, playing Friday nights in the VJBL against other associations. That requires a tryout, generally held in October for the following season.
Fixtures for both are published through PlayHQ, which is the platform most Victorian basketball runs on.
Ring the association on 03 9847 2300 with your child's age and ask what is running. If they're under five, Little Dribblers is the start. Five to ten, Aussie Hoops. Older than that and you're looking at a junior domestic club.
For the Raiders, you need to attend tryouts rather than register.
