Who Blacktown Storm are

City of Blacktown Basketball Association Incorporated, CBBA for short, is a not-for-profit basketball association in Western Sydney. Its representative program is the Blacktown Storm, which competes in Basketball NSW's Waratah Junior and Senior Leagues. Storm home games are played at Kevin Betts Stadium in Mount Druitt, which is also CBBA's head office.

Storm teams are picked each year at trials held in October for the following year. CBBA describes a typical season like this: training starts in late November at one or two sessions a week, pre-season games come in February, and the season itself runs from March until July or August. Home games make up about half the season, and the rest involve travel to stadiums around Sydney and occasionally regional NSW.

In 2026 the junior Storm teams played in Basketball NSW's Metro Junior League (MJL), the home and away rep league for Sydney associations. CBBA reported that its Under 12 girls won the Division 2 title and its Under 12 boys the Division 4 title, and that its Under 14 boys, who played in the Premier division, went on to the Basketball NSW State Championships.

Storm trials for 2027

Junior trials for 2027 run over four sessions. Session 1, for new players only, is on Sunday 18 October 2026 at Blacktown Leisure Centre, Stanhope. Session 2 on Sunday 25 October brings in returning 2026 Storm players alongside players recalled from session 1. Sessions 3 and 4, on Sunday 1 November and Sunday 8 November, are for recalled players only. Sessions 2 to 4 are at Kevin Betts Stadium. After each session, players are contacted if they are recalled, and after session 4 everyone is told by email whether they made a team.

Trials cover Under 12, 14, 16 and 18 boys and girls: Under 12 for players born 2016 or later, Under 14 for 2014 or later, Under 16 for 2012 or later, and Under 18 for 2010 or later. CBBA intends to nominate two teams per age and gender group for 2027. Times differ by group, and the first 30 minutes of each session are for checking in.

Registration costs a flat $45, paid when you register online, and late registration costs extra. Players must not wear any association uniform or gear to trials, including Blacktown Storm gear. Returning 2026 players, development players and train-on players do not need to attend the first session.

Players who represented another association in 2026 Basketball NSW leagues must complete the Intent to Trial form. Basketball NSW's rules say a registered player cannot trial with another association without it, and that the form is not a clearance. We could not find a Storm season fee on CBBA's site when we checked on 9 October 2026, only the trial fee, so ask the association before you commit.

Where Blacktown plays

CBBA uses three venues. Kevin Betts Stadium in Mount Druitt is the head office, the Storm's home court and a Storm training venue, and it hosts local competition and the Assist All Hoops program. Blacktown Leisure Centre at Stanhope hosts local competition, including the girls' junior divisions, and Aussie Hoops. Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre at Emerton is a Storm training venue and hosts Aussie Hoops in Term 4 2026. CBBA's pages call it Emerton in most places and Mt Druitt in one; the venues page gives 35 Jersey Rd, Emerton.

Local competition

CBBA runs junior and senior competitions twice a year across its three venues. The 2026 to 2027 Summer League runs from October 2026 to April 2027 and starts in the week of 12 October. There are no games from 21 December 2026 to 31 January 2027, and finals start in the week of 15 March 2027. Junior age groups run from Under 8 (born 2020 or later) to Under 18 (born 2010 or later).

Summer League fees, as published on 9 October 2026, are a $90 team nomination fee per team per competition, plus a junior competition fee of $222 per person per competition, which covers court hire, referees and supervisors. Under 8 and Under 10 players are charged term by term, at $111 per term. Families using instalments make the second payment on 23 November 2026.

On top of that, every player needs a CBBA membership, which covers Basketball NSW insurance. The membership page, updated 6 October 2026, lists a 12-month primary membership at $115 for juniors under 8, $135.98 for ages 8 to 11 and $145.98 for ages 12 to 17. Six-month memberships are $75, $90.98 and $96.98. A player whose primary membership is with another Basketball NSW association buys a cheaper secondary membership instead.

CBBA partners with clubs and team managers so players of any skill level can find a team. Its primary clubs are Pitbulls, Rivals, Savannah Pride, Sydney Dragons and Sydney Huskies, and each lists weekly training. If your child is on their own, the individual player interest form on the Summer League page is the place to start. When we checked, CBBA's Join the League page said the current season was closed to new player registrations while the Summer League page said team nominations were open, so email competitions@blacktownbasketball.com if your child still needs a team.

Programs for younger kids

CBBA runs Ford Aussie Hoops every school term, eight weeks of one-hour sessions. In Term 4 2026 it runs on Friday evenings from 23 October at both Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre in Emerton and Blacktown Leisure Centre in Stanhope. The Beginner program suits ages 5 to 8, Intermediate suits ages 7 to 9 who have finished Beginner, and Train and Play, for ages 7 to 9 who have finished Intermediate, adds a 3x3 game and has children start using their skills in CBBA's Under 8 and Under 10 competition. No experience is needed.

The 2026 fees for Beginner and Intermediate are $179.20 per term for a new participant, including a starter pack valued at $50, or $129.20 for a returning participant. Train and Play is $292.95 for new participants and $242.95 for returning ones, and it takes a maximum of 10 participants per term. Parents can use the NSW Active Kids voucher.

Assist All Hoops, run with Basketball NSW for participants with an intellectual impairment, is on Monday nights from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at Kevin Betts Stadium. Term 4 2026 starts on 19 October, and it costs $113.75 per term.

If your child misses selection

With two teams planned per age and gender group, Storm spots are limited. The trials page names development players and train-on players within the Storm program, but it does not explain how they are chosen or what they cost, so ask the coaches at trials whether either is an option for your child.

Otherwise, the Summer League is the obvious next step: a full season of games from October to April, with weekly training through the primary clubs. CBBA's competition by-laws set the rules for rep players in local competition, so check them if your child is playing alongside current Storm players. Next year's trials are again in October.

How to join

For local competition, nominate a team for the Summer League, join one of the primary clubs, or fill in the individual player interest form. Fixtures are on Basketball Connect, and you need a current CBBA membership before your child takes the court.

For the Storm, register online through the 2027 trials page before the first session, and complete the Intent to Trial form first if your child played for another association in 2026.
